Counselling and therapy can help in a wide range of situations including helping to:

  • Improve self esteem
  • Establish meaningful relationships
  • Improve self confidence
  • Learn how to cope more effectively
  • Become more accepting of yourself and others

Counselling BournemouthCounselling provides the opportunity for an experienced therapist to help and support you through problems that may be facing you. We all have different ways of coping with life’s difficulties. Speaking to a therapist can be helpful to work through issues such as depression, stress, bereavement, work-related difficulties, relationships and low self-esteem.

Therapy can help with addictions, weight lost, phobias, depression, anxiety, bereavement, sexual identity and many other issues effecting our ability to function in everyday life

Approach

My main approach is based on the person-centered core model. Central to this approach is the relationship between the counsellor and the client, establishing trust to enable the client to explore issues in their own time and in their own way. I aim to create a space where it feels safe to talk about the things that concern you without feeling judged.

We are all individuals and I am able to tailor the way I work to suit your particular needs. Using a range of ‘tools’ I adapt my approach to help you in the most appropriate way. I will endeavour to support and help you on your journey and work on the issues most important to you.

Confidentiality

You can be assured of total confidentiality, although there are a few exceptions, for example if I believe you intend to cause serious harm to yourself or someone else or if you told me you had been involved in criminal activity. I would always endeavour to discuss this with you before taking any action.

Counsellors are required to attend supervision to discuss their client work. Supervisors are also bound by confidentiality rules and client’s identities are kept anonymous.

About Phil Martin, Counsellor in Bournemouth

I originally trained as an engineer and worked for a large private manufacturer and also in the public sector. From the shop floor to management, I experienced many changes and saw first hand the impact these had on peoples’ lives. I learned about real life issues and what is important to people.

I spent four years working and developing communication skills in Nigeria and have provided practical help for socially challenged people one-to-one.Phil Martin, counsellor in Bournemouth

I have managed teams of people in operations and maintenance and served on the leadership team of a local church.

In my mid-forties I decided to use my skills and experience to help others, so I took some time out to train as a counsellor and psychotherapist.

Now with 16 year’s experience working as a counsellor, I can bring a down-to-earth approach to helping and supporting you. There’s no shame in asking for help. In fact it’s a positive sign that you recognise you are human and just need someone to come alongside you at this time, and without judgement, provide a safe place for you to explore what’s going on and find a way forward together.
